Dirk Van Dyk was invented in May 2006 in response to a
call for drag king artists for Meow Mix in Montreal.
He shared the stage with Gary “Grease Monkey”
Dickinson and a duo of young kings. Also appearing as
a guest performer from Idaho was Erin Riddel as a
tall, lanky cowboy.  Dirk was terrified on this first
appearance out, and though he has done many shows
since then, he still gets a little antsy before going
on stage.  He found great camaraderie among the
Montreal queer scene and has since relocated for
economic reasons to the province of Alberta.  He has
found like-minded spirits there and hopes to form a
new and vibrant drag king community to entertain and
titillate the western masses.  He greatly misses his
drag brothers in the East but knows that they will
always have that special head-locking bond among one
another and that his king bling will never forget
their flirtatious moments.  His style is a combination
of old school cabaret, original dance choreography,
and utter joy at being free to be his somewhat
subversive self on stage.  He invites you to come see
him in Calgary and at IDKE9 in Vancouver!
